The Solar System

 The Solar System

Grade 4 has been learning about Space in the last few weeks as part of our unit. Of course, in order to learn about space, it's important to start with the basics - the solar system! Each of use became an expert in our own planet, researching, writing, and presenting about it, and finally creating our own solar system in our class!

In order to make planets we started by making paper mache. For many of us, this was our first time doing this. We were surprised how slimy the newspaper and flour mixture was! It was much messier than we had thought it would be!

After we made the planets we let them dry over the weekend. Then, it was time to paint. We wanted to paint accurately, so we used our Space Books to reference each planet and its colors. It took us a long time to get it right!

In the end we created each planet, including Pluto, and now they hang in the classroom, helping us remember their order, their sizes, their colors, and how far they are from each other.
